The innovative modular crane system of the Terex® Demag CC8800-1 TWIN is based on the multiple utilization of modules of the CC8800-1. For its owners it opens up the widest possible range of deployment options for a reduced cost of ownership.
The name TWIN refers to the impressive double boom and the multiple utilization of the tried and tested CC8800-1 modules, which are complemented by a small number of additional components. The transport characteristics of the CC8800-1 have been optimized for worldwide transport and have been retained for the TWIN.

Operating as a pick-and-carry crawler crane with 3200t (3527 tons) lifting capacity and a maximum load moment of 44000 meter tonnes (319,000 feet kips) the TWIN represents a considerable saving of both time and space requirements in the erection of large industrial facilities – when compared with ring lift cranes and jacking towers.
TWIN Power

Through the parallel alignment of the double booms the lifting capacity of the CC8800-1 was quadrupled in some configurations.
Like the main boom, the luffing fly jib and the Superlift mast are arranged in a double layout. All the booms are connected by cross-bracings; all the winches and hook blocks are also provided in pairs.
The carrier is enlarged to a 14m (45.9 ft) track width by means of a lengthened crawler carrier and a connecting structure with integrated circular track with roller systems. The tried and tested superstructure of the CC8800-1 receives an additional double structure at the front; the rear frame of the CC8800-1 has been incorporated unchanged.
The counterweight carrier and two Superlift trays of the CC8800-1 are combined by means of a connection unit into the patented TWIN counterweight system of 1740t (1918 tons). This enables the counterweight to be easily adapted to the requirements of the lifting job and achieves full manoeuvrability of the crane.
Boom combinations
The modular boom design makes the TWIN particularly adaptable to various situations, for example in the petrochemical industry, power station construction or major infrastructure projects.
The main boom can be up to 117m (383 ft) long. It can be combined with a luffing fly jib of up to 117m (383 ft) in length, resulting in a maximum hook height of over 235m (770 ft).
For erecting components in petrochemical facilities a Vessellift is available, made up of parts of the luffing fly jib. This makes it possible to erect distillation columns of 100m (328 ft) length weighing 1800t (1984 tons). All the accessories of the CC8800-1 can of course be used, such as the runner or the light fixed jib (370 t/ 407 tons).
Innovation
The CC8800-1 TWIN is a unique modular crane system constructed for the most part of the tried and tested components of the CC8800-1.
It provides fully mobile lifting capacities in previously unavailable dimensions: the lifting capacity is 3200t (3527 tons) and the maximum load moment 44000 meter tonnes (319,000 feet kips). And yet transport remains as easy as with the CC8800-1: no component is wider than 3.5m (11.5 ft) and the transport weight of nearly all the components is less than 40t (44 tons). This ensures cost-effective transport anywhere in the world.
Assembly and operation at the highest safety level
The parallel arrangement of the booms makes for minimum rigging times, since transport and assembly procedures are as simple as with a single boom. Crane operators and assembly staff can utilize their experience with all the other Terex® Demag lattice boom cranes and will immediately find themselves at home.
The TWIN uses the familiar touchscreens and joysticks of the tried and tested Terex® Demag IC-1 control system. As well as working range limiting and ground pressure display the high-tech IC-1 also provides extensive auto-diagnosis functions. These make it easier to locate faults on-site and maximize the machine’s availability. Standardized operating features keep the training required for crane operators to a minimum.
Productivity in use
All CC8800-1s are equipped for the use of a TWIN kit. Thus a TWIN kit can also be loaned to other operators of CC8800-1 lattice boom cranes. Without the TWIN kit the crane can be used as a “normal” CC8800-1 with a lifting capacity of up to 1600t (1763 tons). For the really “big lifts” the TWIN kit is brought separately to the construction site. This minimizes long-distance transport and results in particularly efficient and economical utilization.
High-availability design
The redundant provision of components maximizes availability on the construction site.
For example, the crane has two identical drive units that operate independently, and a second independent control system.
Even if one engine or control system fails, for example as a result of a lightning strike, the CC8800-1 TWIN can continue its work.
Since the 3,200-tonne (3527 tons) machine is fully mobile with load, productivity in the erection of large industrial facilities can be significantly increased. Unlike ring lift cranes or lifting platforms, which impede construction site operations while they are being erected on-site, the TWIN can be assembled away from the site. As a pick-and-carry crawler crane, the TWIN can collect its load away from the construction site and place it within a short time at its destination.
